Nepal

Nepal is a landlocked country in the Indian subcontinent. Covering an area of 56,827 square miles, Nepal is the world's ninety-third largest country by landmass. It has a population of approximately 29,331,000. 
Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. It is the largest metropolitan city in the country, covering an area of 19.6 square miles. The estimated population of the city is 989,273. 
Nepal is divided into fourteen zones and seventy-five districts. A permanent chief district officer is appointed for each district, who is responsible for maintaining law and order and also coordinates the work of various agencies and government ministries. 
The currency of Nepal is Nepalese Rupee, denoted by the ISO code NPR. It is abbreviated as Rp. 
Nepali is the official language of Nepal; it is derived from Sanskrit and was formerly known as Khaskura. Other languages spoken in the country are: Tharu, Gurung, Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Maithili, Kiranti, Tamang, Sherpa, Magar, Limbu, etc. 
Hinduism is the official religion of Nepal and Shiva is worshiped as the major deity. Islam, Buddhism, Jainism, and Christianity are the other religions practiced in the country. 
With a per capita income of around $427 in 2009, Nepal is one of the poorest economies in the world. Agriculture is the main source of income, contributing 40% to the GDP. Rice is the main crop; the other crops include wheat, barley, pulses, sugarcane and oilseeds. Livestock is another major source of income after agriculture. Nepal exports grain, leather and jute goods, carpets and clothing, and its chief export partners are India, Germany and the USA. The import partners of the country are the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, China, India and Saudi Arabia. The main imports are fertilizers, gold, petroleum products and machinery. 
Tourism was a major source of income, but has been hampered by the growing insurgent activities of the Maoist rebels.
